Lauren Hanson's work is driven by an almost obsessive fascination with the elements of nature, seen in their present state, their past status, and their uncertain future. A thought, article or personal observation about a plant or creature’s appearance or status often provides the inspiration for a particular piece and how the initial form is thrown. In developing the shape, Lauren will reach back to the history of art and ceramics, and usually in combination with extensive research about the subject, the process progresses. The resulting work is also influenced by a multitude of other considerations occurring throughout its creation, ranging from the artistic, technical and mystical.
